DeVry University or AIU?

Hi All,

I'm looking at returning to school in an online environment. I have opted for online because I don't have to worry about commute, schedules and/or catchy sicknesses that I'm to prone to (strep, flew, etc). I can mostly work in my own time, but though I've narrowed my options down to two I'd like some input. So far my options are DeVry University and AIU (American InterContinental University). I've decided on these on the issue of major that suits my desires. However, if anyone has any experiences with either of these universities I'd like to hear about it. I wonder how accessible their vertual classroom, library, etc are...(Each site seems fairly easy to navigate once you find your way around), and any other data one may have to add. Please keep it adult in discussion? This is a very important decision for anyone to make...Also, if anyone knows of a good university that they'd like to recommend, please feel free. :) My thing is this, I want my work to be completely online and a degree in computer programming. :)

Thanks in advance for any information given.

Yes, I'd be interested in this too as I want to get a degree in I T. So I have some questions of my own. Is computertraining.com legit? I personally don't think so. To me it sounds too good to be true and it's entirely too advertised. Even if it is legit, how accessible is it? Is online learning generally more or less expensive than traditional college? From personal experiences, how willing are the teachers to adapt things to a blind person (I'm assuming assignments are generally in pdf, which can sometimes be problematic, or that there are at least some graphics courses required for my major of choice.) Does it take a shorter time to complete courses because you're going at your own pace (assuming you do complete the work at a fast pace as I intend to do,) or do you have to follow a schedule (for example, waiting until others enrolled have completed a given task or assignment.) When you receive your certification, does it specify that it was obtained online, or is it all the same? If not, does getting an online education hurt your chances of employment?
I apologize to the original poster for steering this topic in a different direction. I probably should have created my own topic, but this one was there so I decided to just add to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I don't really have anyone else to ask these things to.

LOL, NP. Actually, I'm trying University of Phoenix first. It has Software Engineering, and that is like perfect for me. As far as I've determined...After hours on the phone with enrollment reps who don't want to shut up...Going online costs little to no extra than going to a campus. I don't know about computerTraining.com, I have never looked into it. However, you can look up accreditations, as well as FAFSA school codes; (I doubt our lovely government has given school codes to universities that haven't been accredited). Also, I've been examining schools for (1) obviously not hidden links to accessibility services (and the like), (2) schools that have links to vertual classroom sites so that students can see what they're getting...About the PDF, I've already got an educational disibilities services rep, and she's already starting to work with me...I presume with it being online they more focus on working the entire system accessible instead of case by case...That is accept for with testing. Also, I'personally think those online schools who have physical campuses are more trustworthy. Therefore, you would have to go at the pace of the class (pretty much). But, that's just imo...Finally, I think the deplomas look completely normal. :) At least they better...u o px simply treats online as an additional campus.

First and foremost, please do some reason and find out if these schools are accredited. Online colleges seem like a wonderful idea and you'll most definitely learn a lot from their classes, but unless the school has its proper accreditation to prove that its students are capable of applying this knowledge in the real world, your diploma will be little more than a pretty slip of paper.

Your safest bet is to take online courses offered by established local colleges, such as cattleya's University of Phoenix idea. These schools for the most part are nationally recognized and trusted for graduating competent students taught by respected faculty.

Congrats on your decision to go back to school. :)

LOL, these last days have been nuts! I was going to go to the University of Phoenix, but, (there always has to be a but) I've found out to apply to the online portion you either have to be working or volynteer for an organization in a capassity that is associated with your chosen career path (major). Well, that's that, but CTU (Colorado Technical University) has no such requirement and their credits are $210 cheaper, (and yes they too are accredited). Plus, I heard that when your ready to graduate from the University of Phoenix you get hit with a "Graduation Fee"; which they don't tell you about up front. There is no such fee with CTU, however, there is an application fee. However, with the app fee you have 72 hours to get it back...If for any reason your unhappy. I know that doesn't seem like long, but take into consideration that I found out with in 3 hours of finishing the application, (and paying the fee) that I was accepted. Plus, I'm getting a vertual walk through not even 48 hours after the application...I really think it isn't a bad deal. :) If anyone would like more information about CTU let me know, and I might be able to put you in direct contact with my own admissions advisor...Oh, and it looks like there is a disabilities center as well...So, all is good. Final decision...I'm going to CTU and my classes begin on July 2nd...Less than a month away.
